What to do After a Water Shutdown, Waterline Repair, or Flushing
What to Expect After a Shutdown:
Whether a service shutdown is scheduled or not, the start-up procedure is the same. With the stop and start of water, sediment can be disturbed in the waterlines which may discolour the water. After service is restored, run your COLD water taps until the water runs clear. While clearing your lines you may notice pockets of air or low pressure, this is normal and should stop after a few minutes. Water may also be milky, cloudy, murky, or discoloured, run COLD water until the water runs clear.
What to do BEFORE you call BMID about potential issues:
Before you call BMID check sediment screens on taps and faucets, these can clog overtime and can reduce water pressure, they can clog especially fast after a shutdown due to sediment kickup. Pressure reducing valves (PRVs) can also become plugged overtime or after a shutdown, please check if your PRV is plugged.
Annual District System Flushing:
System flushing is required to ensure optimum water quality and removes any sediment deposits that may accumulate over time. Watch for BMID Road Signs in your area during flushing periods.
Customers of Black Mountain Irrigation District are advised that during these periods, you may experience lower than normal water pressure and some temporary discoloration when crews are working in your area. To avoid any inconvenience, please check your water clarity prior to use. If you experience discoloration, run your COLD water taps until the water runs clear.
